IMPROVING LECTURERS' PROFESSIONAL THROUGH THE LESSON STUDY DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND BIOLOGICAL STUDY PROGRAM MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF SURAKARTA

Abstract

The problem statements of the study include: 1) What lecturers' problem of Mathematics and Biological Departement through lesson study? 2) What contribute lesson study to the improvement of Mathematics and Biological Study Program, School of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, 3) what are the benefits of approach to improve the class action research for the lecturers and students, and 4) what are the criteria? As the data source, the subjects of the study were the lecturers' model, lecturers as an observer, Department Heads and students of Mathematics and Biological Study Program. The approach used phenomenological-qualitative in asocial definition and lesson study-based micro-paradigm study. The data gathering method used observation and in-depth interview. The data analysis employed first order understanding and second order understanding. The findings showed that 1) The findings showed that a problem lecturers' is internal (lecturers'/teachers) and external (students, supervisors, and facilities). 2) It could contribute to the improvement of the lecturers' professional, including learning facilities such as students work sheet, colleague growth, students' learning preparation, and reflection-based learning quality. 3) The lesson study encouraged the lecturers to prepare a very high cognitive, affective and psychomotor focusedlearning process. 4) The learning criteria included a) analysis and evaluation in more details, b) students' creativity and independency, c) development of affective aspects, and the academic skills generated from lesson study: academic knowledge, thinking, management and communication.
